Reach out for an Alive or Halim Ladoo to boost your Iron levels
Numerous women, these days, are showing signs of being Anemic and have been diagnosed with iron deficiencies. While our eating habits and lifestyles have much to do with this deficiency , we don't really need to reach out to supplements if its not severe, but to our kitchen cupboards for a jar of Alive Ladoos. The regular intake is 7-18 mg daily for the general population and upto 27 mg for pregnant women . Be aware of your wellness , if you are feeling fatigued often , headaches , pale skin and shortness of breath are some of the symptoms.
Alive( pronounced as (aaliv) or Halim are garden cress seeds that are a goldmine of iron . It is also rich in folate , calcium , Vitamins A, C and E. The recipe makes around 15-16 ladoos and they keep for 15 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will not harden in there.
This recipe is taken from Tarla Dala's collection that I found to be very simple .
Ingredients
3/4 cup Alive or Asariyo seeds
1/2 cup Jaggery , you may use jaggery block or powder form
1/4 cup semolina , rava
1 tblsp ghee
1/4 cup crushed almonds or almond flour
1 tblsp grated coconut, fresh or baking coconut
To Prepare :
Soak Alive seeds in 1/2 cup water for 3 hrs. The seeds will soak up all the water .
Heat Ghee in a heavy bottomed pan and add the soaked Alive seeds with the jaggery and semolina. Cook for at least 6-7 minutes . You will see the jaggery melt and the mixture coming together.
3. Then add the grated or baking coconut and the crushed almonds.and mix very well.
4. Put it on a plate to cool a bit , and roll into small ladoos . You may grease your palm if you feel its needed before doing so.
5. Store in an airtight container for 15 days. Its recommended to refrigerate . Eat with a glass of milk daily if you want as a mid day snack. Or prepare it for your loved ones !
